Pelion is a mountainous peninsula of great natural beauty and a wonderful place to explore all year round with both summer and winter destinations. It is dotted with traditional grey stone roofed villages, cobblestone paths and exotic beaches. In Greek Mythology Mt. Pelion, which took its name from the mythological king Peleus, father of Achilles, was the homeland of Chiron the Centaur tutor to many ancient Greek heroes such as Jason, Achilles, Theseus and Hercules. It was in Mt. Pelion near Chiron’s cave, that the marriage of Thetis and Peleus took place. The uninvited goddess Eris wanting to take revenge for having been kept outside the party, brought a golden apple with the inscription “to the fairest”. The dispute that then arose between the goddesses Hera, Aphrodite and Athena resulted in the events leading to the Trojan War.

Canyoning (also known as canyoneering in the U.S.) is traveling in canyons using a variety of techniques that may include other outdoor activities such as walking, scrambling, climbing, jumping, rappelling and/or swimming. Canyons that are ideal for canyoning are often cut into the bedrock stone, forming narrow gorges with numerous drops, beautifully sculpted walls, breathtaking sceneries and spectacular waterfalls. Emphasis in the sport is usually on aesthetics and fun rather than pure difficulty.

Since Greece is a mountainous country it offers many opportunities for Canyoning. The trip includes expert professional guides and full equipment is provided (wet suits, helmets, harnesses, ropes e.t.c)
